What made you choose a healthcare career?
My career in healthcare is forged from my commitment to patient partnered care. Through education and health promotion, my aim is to engage and empower patients so they may achieve and maintain optimal health and longevity.
The foundation of my nursing career is based on experiences I’ve had while working in long term care, hospital inpatient care, and in a clinic outpatient setting. These experiences have revealed to me a significant unmet need for improved access to compassionate, patient-driven care. The desire to be a part of addressing this important need was a major motivating factor in my desire to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
How does the work you do at KCHC make a different in the lives of patients and the community?
The care provided is based on an understanding of the many factors and underlying causes that have the potential to negatively impact one’s health. The care I provide is centered around the team approach. Relationships I have nurtured throughout my career have proven valuable when collaboration and coordination of care is indicated. I have learned that trust must be earned, especially when it comes to the health and wellbeing of patients and their loved ones. Therefore, I place high value on effective communication with my patients, the internal care team, and the external specialists in effort to provide optimal coordinated care for my patients. Through patient partnership, each plan of care is developed based on the individual’s unique physical, social, mental, and emotional needs. Together, we can work to overcome barriers and improve individual health and the health of our community.
