KCHC Family Nurse Practitioner, Krystal Rafenstein, is on the move… and so is her “office.”
Rafenstein, who joined KCHC in October 2018, is a part of the dedicated Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) team at KCHC. The MMU makes care and services accessible to where patients live, work, and play at locations throughout Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties.
“I have been a part of the MMU since its beginning,” shares Rafenstein. “I feel the best part of the MMU is our adaptability. We can shift and make do in any environment in order to provide the services needed. We have worked out of tents, parking lots, churches, corporate buildings, and many other community locations. The most important aspect of our work is the education and counseling for the community.”
Rafenstein chose to pursue her career in healthcare to provide care and education to individuals and families within the community. Working on the MMU has allowed her to provide education and counseling for the community, from exposure and quarantine counseling to returning to work or school, to vaccine education.
“I strive to work with patients and families to develop healthcare goals and priorities,” states Rafenstein. She added that the MMU services allow her to help individuals who have not had primary care to improve their overall health. She accredits the MMU’s success to the entire KCHC team.
The MMU team is critical, according to Rafenstein, to also help teach the community all the services that KCHC provides. “I would like the community to know that KCHC is not just about COVID testing and vaccines. We are a full-service clinic with chronic disease management, primary care, acute illness, dental, and behavioral health services.”
