KENOSHA, WIKenosha Community Health Center (KCHC) and Pillar Health are proud to celebrate National Health Center Week (NHCW) 2024, taking place August 4-10. The annual event highlights the essential role Community Health Centers play in improving public health and advancing health equity. Health centers represent the nation’s largest primary care network, serving 31.5 million patients nationwide.

This year’s NHCW celebration, launched by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), focuses on “Powering Communities Through Caring Connections” through a host of scheduled events that include resource fairs, back-to-school drives, health screenings, and visits to health centers by local, state, and national leaders.

With a mission to make high-quality, affordable care available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status, health centers save lives on the front lines of our nation’s most pressing public health challenges. They are powered by a workforce of nearly 300,000 dedicated professionals who directly increase access to affordable care to prevent illness to all individuals, but also reach beyond the walls of the exam room to also address social needs that may contribute to poor health outcomes – high medication costs, housing concerns, food insecurity, substance use disorders, low health literacy, and transportation.

Nearly 1,500 health centers are the health care home to:

  • One in 5 uninsured people
  • One in 3 people living in poverty
  • One in 7 rural residents
  • Nearly 9 million children
  • 400,000 veterans

“Individuals living in Kenosha and surrounding Racine and Walworth Counties are fortunate to have access to a community health center capable of providing high-quality, affordable care along with the resources to help address barriers to health,” said Mary Ouimet, CEO of KCHC and Pillar Health. “We have been entrusted with shepherding and growing the health center services to meet the ever-changing community needs.” KCHC and Pillar Health provide medical, dental and mental health services to 17,000 patients with over 45,000 visits annually. Services are provided in the traditional clinic setting, schools, and through outreach activities. NHCW offers another opportunity to remind the community that KCHC and Pillar Health are here to help individuals and families live their healthiest lives.

Committed to the wellbeing of the community, Pillar Health and Kenosha Community Health Center ensure that their services are affordable and accessible. Bilingual providers are available to serve Spanish speaking patients and families in their native language. Accepting Medicaid, Medicare, and numerous private insurance plans, they also offer a Sliding Fee Discount Program for uninsured individuals.
