What does Black History Month mean to me?
To me, the celebration of Black History Month is a time to reflect on all the accomplishments that our ancestors made in order to further equality and for us to live free and compete in an established economy for successful careers as United States citizens. Contributing to the cause of America is and always has been my one goal in life.
Black History Month also serves to remind me that the fight is not over. We as a people still have a long road to haul in obtaining equality on all levels, and we should work to help those who are less fortunate achieve some semblance of prosperity moving them forward in life if at all possible.
I am thankful for the opportunities presented before me that have allowed me to live a blessed and successful life and career; however, I am also reminded daily of the color of my skin and how we need to push past the hatred and bigotry in order to move forward. Everyone is not your enemy and there are many people who are out there to help you regardless of your situation. Black history has taught me to become the means to an end and not just someone who makes light of someone else’s status.
I have chosen to be proactive in the pursuit of achievement in others no matter what color they may be, anyone can have success if they are sincere and apply themselves
The impact this has on my role at KCHC:
I realize that in my role of leadership within the Kenosha Community Health Center, it is my duty for me to be an example to my peers and always perform to the best of my abilities. This is not in homage to being black, it is how I was raised. My parents taught me to strive to be the best in every field of endeavor and to move the needle in a positive direction daily.
It is my hope that my best is good enough to continue to serve KCHC and I hope to pass that same dedication and professionalism as an example to others like me that if you work hard then that dedication and hard work is its own reward.
