Proper brushing, a healthy diet, and how to keep your teeth happy!
That is what KCHC’s Registered Dental Hygienist, Connie Bevry, is teaching to Kenosha area children through the Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile (SAS) program.
“I’m committed to problem-solving,” shared Bevry. “It is what sets my care apart – I like to get to the root of the problem, help my patients become healthier and find a solution that works for the patient.”
A valued member of the KCHC dental team, Bevry has been helping Kenosha smile since 2019. She chose this field because she enjoys assisting people to become more healthy and is “happy to help everyone.”
Bevry is continuing her commitment to helping Kenosha County children stay healthy through the SAS program.
“Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile (SAS) is a collaborative effort between the Alliance, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and Delta Dental of Wisconsin. The program’s mission is to improve the oral health of Wisconsin children by providing school-based dental sealants. SAS grantees include dentists, dental hygienists, schools, hospitals, local health departments, community health centers, non-profit agencies, and free clinics,” according to the Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin.
Along with other KCHC team members, Bevry visits all of Kenosha’s public elementary schools, along with a few county schools. The team works with an average of 25 kids per day, per hygienist. As a result, some schools can take several days to complete.
Their mission is preventative care:
- Education
- How to brush
- How cavities occur and how to prevent them with brushing and diet
- Treatment
- Hygienists removed plaque
- Place sealants to protect adult molars from decay
- Place fluoride varnish on teeth to strengthen them
- Every child will be sent home with a “School Dental Assessment and Follow–up Care Form”. This will make parents aware of concerns for their child’s teeth and any needs observed at the assessment.
“This program is a great way for parents to become aware of dental problems they may not realize are going on,” states Bevry.
The Seal-A-Smile program allows the team to see patients who need care but might not otherwise have access to dental services. With these free exams, KCHC’s dental experts can give parents an overview of their child’s oral health and recommend potential follow-up treatments.
